BAY OF ANGELS:
$790 (6 Days and 5 Nights)
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY: As in many casual athletic activities, a positive attitude and good health are more important than being in top shape. Paddling (3-4 hours day) will not be strenuous, though regular exercise before your trip would add to your enjoyment.
INCLUDES: Two hotel nights in the Bay of Angels (double ocp.), all meals while camping, guides, tents, kayaks and all equipment.
EXCLUDES: Transportation to the Bay of Angels, alcoholic beverages, meals in town (to allow for individual choice), insurance of any kind, personal items, sleeping bag & pad.
NOTE: Upon reserving your sea kayaking Baja trip, we will send you a “Clothing and What-to-Bring” list.
You will also receive an Invoice/Confirmation, a Medical form, a Liability Release form and Driving Directions.
TRIP DESCRIPTION: After learning the easy-to-master kayaking skills from our friendly, expert guides, we will travel self supported, in a small group (average 6 to max. 8) and spend 4 days paddling from island to island, exploring hidden coves and taking lunch breaks on remote beaches.
With a little luck we may encounter the Finback or Blue whales who frequently cross the bay in search of food. Although smaller in size, Brides and Minke whales are also common encounters and just as exciting. Or, maybe even a pod of Bottlenose dolphins or the playful California sea lions.
We will kayak an average of 3 to 4 hours each day, doing most of the paddling in the morning and leaving the afternoon for snorkeling and hiking the island's short trails, or just relaxing.
Each night we will set our tents on a different island and camp under a warm-starry-sky.
If you have dreamed of a paddling paradise, the Bay of Angels is the place for you.
GETTING THERE: Your journey begins in San Diego-USA, the gateway to the best sea kayaking Baja destinations, and features great site seeing en-route to the Bay of Angels.
No international flight from the U.S. to Baja is needed (hence, no international airfare added to your trip cost); Getting to the Bay of Angels requires self-transportation. You can rent a car from the San Diego airport or, if you live in California, drive your own.
How are the roads in Baja? The NAFTA agreement brought drastic improvements to tourism and traveling conditions in Baja: "A midsize sedan is well suited for the Hwy Mex 1. The road is in very good condition, paved all the way to Cabo San Lucas, and it’s virtually impossible to get lost." - THE NEW YORK TIMES -
How long is the drive? The total drive time from the San Diego airpot to the Bay of Angels is about 8 hours. To make your drive more enjoyable we suggest starting your drive Saturday afternoon and spend the first night in Ensenada. We'd be happy to send you travel suggestions by E-mail request.
Is it easy to find the Bay of Angels? Very easy. Upon reservation, among forms and other information we will send you detailed driving directions. “Mexican Highway 1” (MEX 1) is the only one road that goes from San Diego all the way to the end of the Baja peninsula. It’s virtually impossible to get lost.
Where will I rent the car from? A mid-size car rents for about $250/week at the San Diego airport, making the Bay of Angels our most cost-effective sea kayaking Baja adventures, especially if your party is of two or more people.
How much time off do I need from work? The Bay Of Angels trip runs from Sunday to Friday, so you only need five days off from work: You can leave San Diego in the morning and arrive in Bahia de Los Angeles that afternoon. Or, if you want to take your time and enjoy the scenic drive, give yourself an extra day.
Where will I leave my car while I'm away on the trip?
The vehicles will be parked at the private hotel where you will spend first and last night, and will be absolutely safe.
CAR RENTAL: The following car-rental companies will rent vehicles for driving into Baja California and some will provide you with mandatory Mexican auto-insurance. Most of these rental companies are at the San Diego airport (or, they offer courtesy airport pick-up).
AVIS; (619) 688-5063 or (619) 688-5000: Reliable & professional, they also offer the needed Mexican auto insurance at the airport office location.
AIRPORT RENT-A-CAR; (800)987-7725 or (619)295-1555: Walk-ins only. No advanced reservations, but they have a big fleet of cars. They offer Mexican auto insurance at their airport office.
GALAXY RENT-A-CAR; (888) 988-0888: Small company offering great rates; Odd enough, sometimes they are reluctant to rent vehicles for Baja (try mentioning Miramar Adventures, talk nice:)
DOLLAR; (800)800-4000 or (866)434-2226
CALIFORNIA BAJA RENT-A-CAR; (619) 470-7368: Somewhat pricey but they offer many vehicle options as well as remote drop-offs.
ENTERPRISE (800)325-8007 or (619)294-3313.
We encourage you to further research car rental companies and prices. We suggest calling some of the other major car rental companies listed in the yellow pages directory like Hertz, Budget, etc. Although some of them do not rent vehicles for driving into Baja, they change policies quite often and it's worth researching for possible better rates.
We spend a great part of our time out of
the office, paddling. We are not always around a phone. However, we do check our e-mails daily from wherever we are. If you have questions about our sea kayaking Baja trips the best way to contact us is by E-mail.
