ABOUT WAGONS WEST

Our family invites you to join us in what we call paradise: The beauty and serenity of the vast and spectacular Teton Wilderness laying next to Yellowstone Park and north of the Majestic Tetons and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Wagon West is a family owned business now operated by Lynn Madsen & wife Marcene Peterson Madsen, along with their son Chad, and daughters, also the old folks Everett & Pat Peterson. That maksr this a third generation Outfitting Business. For you it means the highest quality of service by people with years of experience.

Wagons West is an authentic replica of a pioneer covered wagon train as used by early settlers in their journey west. The wagons are pulled by gentle teams and driven by local ranchers. For your comfort, the wagons have rubber tires and foam padded seats that convert to deluxe bunks at night. The white wagon cover protects you from the sun and occasional shower. Gentle riding horses are available for those who wish to ride. Guided trail rides explore the surrounding wilderness. Each Covered Wagon Trek, will be managed by a member of the family; we will make every effort to assure you of a successful and enjoyable experience while you are with us on WAGONS WEST.... One that you will cherish and always remember.

Horseback Riding on Sioux TrailsThe roll of the covered wagon in winning and settling the west is well known. Our authentic re-creation of a pioneer covered wagon train of yesteryear, traveling the most of scenic area in Western America, can bring you the thrill of reliving history. We invite you to share in the history of the majestic area with us as we explore areas where the Sioux and Cheyenne lived and hunted.

WAGON TRIP DESCRIPTION

Covered Wagons Outdoor JourneyYou will fly or drive to Jackson, we suggest arrival on the afternoon of the day prior to the trip's departure.

We meet you at your downtown motel in Jackson at 8:00 a.m. for transfer by van to Wagons West. After you meet the wagon master, the crew and other guests, you are assigned to your wagon or fitted to your saddle and the train lines out for the day's trek.

Frequent stops and a lunch break provide time to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Wagon covers are rolled up to give a full view of the passing scenery.

You may escort the wagon train on a gentle riding horse in rotation with other guests. Full time horses are available for an extra fee. Special guided trail rides into the surrounding wilderness will be a highlight of the trip for those so inclined.

The next campsite is reached and a wagon circle forms in early afternoon to allow time for hiking, riding, and relaxation before supper. Meals are served family-style from our chuckwagon and are prepared by experienced cooks. Guests sleep in their wagon, in a deluxe tent or under the stars. We return you to the motel by 6:00 p.m. on the last day of the trek.

2 days/1 night, 4 days/3 nights, 6 days/5 nights


WAGON TRIP INFORMATION

Meals are cooked chuckwagon style over an open fire using Dutch oven. Contemplate the aroma in the air as you try to determine what the cook has in the oven for your meal. The menu includes:
Ham, Bacon, Sourdough Hotcakes, Roasts, Chicken, Stews, Steak, Salad, Beverages

What to Bring

Informal outdoor clothing, wide brimmed hat, hiking or riding boots, warm jacket, gloves, rain gear, overshoes, toilet articles, towel, wash cloth, insect repellent, sunglasses, flashlight, canteen, musical instruments, camera and lots of film, a warm sleeping bag (We rent sleeping bags for the trip if you so not wish to bring you own. Pillows are not included.) We do not furnish alcoholic beverages or canned pop, if you wish these items bring your own.
CAUTION: frost and cold weather are possible anytime in the mountains. Be sure your coat is warm enough and your sleeping bag is adequate for 30 degrees. Overshoes are useful if there is rainy weather. A flashlight is necessary.

How to Pack

All baggage must be moved daily. Pack in duffel bags or sturdy suitcases. Do not bring too much. Organize your gear so that dress clothing and unnecessary items can be stored at the motel or in your car. Do not bring items in paper containers, plastic garment bags, etc.
